| Sami Solid
On to his third album with T-Series, Kisi Din, a slim-n-trim Adnan unwinds to Screen on various Sami-solid topics. Excerpts Music has changed a lot in the last three years. Is there any feature that differentiates your new album Kisi Din from your previous work? Well, yes, because I thought that it was time for me to move on. I do not like the idea of remaining in a comfort zone for too long. Treading unfamiliar terrain helps a creative entity because of the excitement of experimenting and the vicarious sense of adventure - because you are uncertain and do not know whether something new will be accepted or will turn out worthwhile. Kisi Din has 11 original tracks. For the first time, I have removed some trademarks of my music. Of course, what is important and necessary in its consistency is melody - music is not possible without it - but I have changed the way the songs have been dressed and given my music a makeover.
SanDisk Sansa Connect
Announced at CES earlier this year, SanDisk's Wi-Fi-equipped MP3 player has arrived, and I've been playing around with it for a while now. The first thing that struck me about this 4GB player is that its Wi-Fi capabilities are actually useful. The Sansa Connect gives you many more sharing options than Microsoft's Zune does, all of them built around a partnership with Yahoo. Find an open access point, and you can stream Internet radio from Launchcast stations or browse Flickr photo streams. Sign up for Yahoo's portable music subscription service, Yahoo Music Unlimited To Go (US$12 per month for an annual subscription, or $15 if you go month-to-month), and you'll be able to download individual tracks or albums of your choice over Wi-Fi. I'd still like to have the option of syncing wirelessly with my PC, but the streaming radio is a very nice touch.
From Xiu Xiu, well-crafted cacophony
If your favorite record store was unexpectedly closed Friday evening, it was probably because the staff was heading over to the Xiu Xiu show at the Wonder Ballroom. Definitely an underground phenomenon intent on maintaining its cult status, Xiu Xiu (pronounced "shoe-shoe") creates post-punk experimental art rock that is possibly best appreciated by those with expansive, dense and, well, superior record collections. In fact, their music, veering wildly from tortured freak-folk to progressive jazz to epic-minded rock to dance and deconstructionism, could be considered sonic chaos, if only it weren't so crafted, controlled and prolific. (Busy since 2000, the band had 11 different CDs available on its merchandise table along with assorted photo and art offerings.) At the helm of this musical madness is Jamie Stewart.
Youbet at Impasse With TrackNet Media; Could Jeopardize Derby Wagering
Youbet.com announced Monday that it is at an impasse in negotiations with TrackNet Media that could result in the online wagering company being unable to take bets on this year’s Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I). According to Youbet.com chairman Charles Champion, TrackNet Media is requiring Youbet to drop other tracks and races if it wanted to have access to the Derby and other TrackNet-controlled content. TrackNet Media is a joint venture of Churchill Downs, Inc. and Magna Entertainment Corp. "Instead of the broader, more inclusive distribution formula the industry has been promised, TrackNet presented us with an unreasonable either-or scenario," said Champion. "To carry this year’s Kentucky Derby and its other content, TrackNet wants us to forego races from, among others, Aqueduct, Belmont, Saratoga, Del Mar, Keeneland, Oak Tree at Santa Anita, Saratoga Harness, Turfway Park, Turf Paradise, and Los Alamitos.
