Violent images in film were echoed by college killer

The images of Cho apparently mimicking scenes from a violent South Korean film highlighted concerns about links between screen brutality and violent crime.

Oldboy, which won the Grand Prix award at the 2004 Cannes film festival, has been described as "an ultra-violent movie of obsession and revenge" filled with what one critic called "punishing emotional violence".

In the film, directed by Chan-wook Park, a man who has been locked in a cell for 15 years without explanation escapes and goes on a rampage to seek revenge. In one scene, he kills more than a dozen henchmen with a hammer.

Guitar tab sites to return, with a catch

A little over a year ago, Punknews.org reported on a crackdown on guitar tablature sites that resulted in many popular, volunteer-built tablature sites being shut down by the Music Publisher's Association. Among the casualties of that legal strike were sites like Power Tabs and Mx Tabs. Today, according to a report on Ars Technica, free guitar tablature sites will be returning, but will now be sharing their revenue with the MPA. MusicNotes, the largest publisher of sheet music, will be running their legally sanctioned music site through MXTabs.net. The catch however, is that now, each artist will individually need to give permission for their songs to be hosted by the service, and users will still need to submit their own interpretations of the guitar parts.
